You want "The Goods? We got "em...here's the "Skinny"!

The Shaker Retro Rocket is one sweet microphone.

The coolest thing to happen since carbon and crystal were put with brass, wood and wind. Call it as you see it, vintage/aged/historic/re-creation/

It's a Shaker Retro Rocket and it's time to advance backwards into the new age of the Blues, with a "shakerized" bullit type harp mic.

The RR is basically a no nonsense Shaker designed bullit type microphone retaining the qualities that made the great original bullit mics so special but with a Shaker touch of technology and craftsmanship.

It has been designed the same as all of our mics, "by harp players for harp players". It has all the snap, crackle and pop any blues rock harp player could want. It's the real deal. Zinc alloy body and crystal element. Solid pewter grill, old timey screw on connector. Over the edge dynamics with a truck load of harmonic overtones. We even kept the feedback, just cut its head a little.

Left: Crystal & Dyno - Right: Madcat

DYNAMIC SHAKER * The Dyno is more of a Chicago electric blues sound. It's thick and hot and puts thunder in your hand. A sax player would call it a "Brown Sound". The Shaker Dyno has fantastic feedback rejection. It's ready to burn down the house when you are. This Shaker can be used either High-Z or Low-Z.

CRYSTAL SHAKER * The Crystal Shaker is a Hi-Z microphone with more of an accurate sound, with less tonal coloration. Some call it cleaner. Yet with the characteristic crystal attack, it can be played very hot and with a cutting edge. When you need to cut through a thick rhythm section, this mic has the "In Your Face" crystal edge to get the job done. This mic has fantastic feedback rejection.

MADCAT SHAKER * The Shaker Madcat model doesn't look like any other microphone. It doesn't respond like any microphone ever produced; it is a totally new approach to harmonica amplification. The design is radical, the shape is functionally perfect, the technology is typical Shaker, way ahead of the rest. The Shaker Madcat has a unique new design which enables you to amplify not only the sound of the harp, but all the hand shaped tones usually associated with acoustic harmonica playing. With the Shaker Madcat you can, for the first time, mic the natural wah-wah sound of a harmonica from inside your cupped hands. This microphone picks up all of the sounds produced  within the variable acoustic chamber created by your cupped hands.

Madcat 2008 update.

Significant changes have been made to improve our Shaker Madcat microphone.  The following is an explanation of this exciting news.
We believe the Shaker Madcat is the most technique sensitive harmonica microphone in the world.  It was developed Joe Harless aka Shakey Joe in collaboration with the amazing Peter Madcat Ruth.  Madcat is one of the most dynamic and innovative harmonica players in the music industry.  And this is the microphone he uses.  The Madcat mic has evolved steadily from its conception.  The basic size, shape and electronics have remained constant.  The materials the microphone body has been constructed of have constantly evolved.  Ever searching for the perfect tone.  We believe this is it!  Common sense and traditional acoustic principles meld together to produce a handcrafted piece of functional art.  Common sense dictates we rid ourselves as much as possible of dependency upon fossil fuel products and the corporations that exploit the earth and us.  As a result Shaker Microphone has chosen an earth friendly and acoustically superior ulterior route.  We are now using North American poplar from Mississippi and Kentucky which is a renewable and eco friendly alternative to plastic or metal.  Poplar has a long history of use as a tone wood in Appalachian musical instrument construction.  The Madcat body is pressure treated in a specially modified tung oil which actually penetrates the wood cells providing a non polluting finish that stabilizes the wood.  It is then hand buffed and burnished to a beautiful eco friendly non toxic all natural finish to enhance the individual grain and color of the wood.  Then it is sealed by a coat of polyurethane to provide a durable high gloss final finish.  How’s it sound?  Fantastic!  After all, that’s what really matters to the serious player.  By utilizing tone wood the overall response is enhanced.  We have found the lower mids more pronounced and a greater overall openness to the tone.  It’s about vibrations right?  Which has the ultimate tone; a fine wood or a plastic clarinet?  Enough said.  When Shaker says “handmade”, that’s what they mean.  Each Madcat body is hand shaped, one at a time, so each is slightly unique.  Just as each piece of wood has its own character, color, grain swirls and mineral stains.  Which will become more beautiful with time and use.  Add the new wooden Madcat to your bag of tricks, you’ll be glad you did.  We hope you develop a whole new spectrum of playing techniques.

NEW MADCAT PICS!

MADCAT HOW TO:
Hold Shaker Madcat in left hand between fingers, grill pointing at harp. Volume control above your knuckles, harmonica and microphone in  same hand. Cup hands around harp and play. Attatch coupler to belt, hook microphone in one side, cord to amp in other side, or plug Madcat directly into wireless sender unit.

VOLUME CONTROL:
The first two thirds of turn is basically off, only the last one third of volume control is active. We designed it that way so that a slight roll of the finger can affect the volume.

AMP SETTING:
Every amp is different, so is every ear. It's up to you. A good place to start with most amps is the bass at 8, mids at 3, adjust to your personal taste and desired tone.

We have found the Madcat microphone to be very compatible with some pre amp type effect amps. The BOSS = Blues Driver works extremely well and is recommended by Madcat himself. Other units that we've heard work well are:

Pre Sonus Tube Pre =  L R Bags = Gig Pro.

If you find a magic setup that you like, let us know. Send us a letter (no Email or Fax's please) and a diagram of your setup, we'll pass the info on to other Madcat players.
